back on xfce

Back on XFCE desktop as a daily driver after months of distrohopping. (years on Windows to maintain the last social link I have with some very old mates, indeed those fuckers at Riot killed League of Linux back when they introduced Vanguard. Some would say why would you stay on Windows with Vanguard just for one game but life's a bit harder than that. Not easy to stay far from private softwares and more commonly against the movement of our society. So here I am staying on Microsoft's OS for a few years).

All those years weren't far from Linux aswell. Had a main tower with a dual-boot Windows 10 (fresh with only lol) and Fedora as main distro, also had a WSL running on my laptop for work purpose - who seriously works on Windows for fuck sake? I'm saying that because the main corporate dogwhistle in early computing was that serious people worked on microsoft, Linux was considered dirty and not trustable. Funny now when most of the web, iot, supercomputers, ai, etc runs on Linux based stuff. Funny or scary that all the technofascist empires rely on open source and free (not as money) softwares... But we're leaving the subject. Are we? - and always a Dietpi on a raspberry on the side for some self-hosted services (Pi-Hole, ntfy.sh, music etc).

So, after this little introduction, I am back running an XCFE based environment on a Kali Linux (Debian based distro). Why? Because I was looking for something a bit different than usual (Fedora last daily, used Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Arch, Debian loads in my early years (15 years using linux tbh, feels like a pretty nice journey, my linuxing is soon adult by law haha). And i am running more and more services on my home lab so I wanted a few tools to be able to monitor my setup, turns that kali has a few. I started use XFCE in.. 2014 on my HP EliteBook 17" laptop (i7, aluminium case what a beauty) running Arch Linux (yes it was Arch btw...) following Fred's tutorial how to install Arch.

This morning my phone died, I'm still not able to turn it back on. Crazy to think that I waited for my phone to die to write a first post on that blog that I started as a new year resolution (in february). Our life are just vacuumed in the stream of content and instant there's online, directly in our pocket on those little devices that makes us Cyborgs already.

So here I am in my couch with the sound of my podcast on, the typing of my fingers on the keyboard and the noise of the family outside in the garden. It's a warm afternoon, late september in the south is an indian summer until october, would be romantic if it wasn't global warming heatwave strikes all year long making our lands a bit dryer months by months.

Got my rooibos chai tea with oatmilk and Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams that I'm reading at the moment. Autumn sundays are the best.
